Tips For Hiring A Certified Mold Remediation Company

Hiring a certified mold remediation company can be a task in it's self. Begin with visiting the Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA) website to obtain a list of mold remediation contractors who are in your area. Select three of them, then call them to schedule a bid. Keep in mind that the lowest bid is not always the best and you get what you pay for. It is therefore advisable to consult with clients who have dealt with the contractors before. Alternatively, you can visit the Institution of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) website when hiring reputable companies.

There is no law requiring you to hire a mold remediation contractor. However, if you are selling your house, the law requires you to disclose all mold incidences in the house including floods. Once the mold remediation project is complete, a test carried out by a third party mold inspector/industrial hygienist will be required. This will act as proof to your buyer that the affected area is back to it's normal pre-damaged condition.

Hiring a certified mold remediation contractor is also safer and more effective than trying to handle the task all by yourself. This is because the contractors have all the specialized equipment to handle the removal. Whichever way you choose, safety precautions have to be followed in order to lessen the exposure to mold through the use of protective clothing, eye protection and a respirator (PPE - Personal Protective Equipment). Any wrong action could lead to cross contamination to the other unaffected areas, within the house/building. To prevent the other parts of the house/building from contamination, the contractor must use a containment with negative air pressure. You will be guaranteed that the job will be perfectly carried out.

Some mold remediation tasks may seem difficult at the start, but some problems may arise in the course of the project. For example, a slow plumbing leak may occur, affecting the remediation project. This will lead to additional monies being spent as unforeseen events arise. This could also affect the final clearance testing, if not corrected. Homeowners must try to maintain their facilities. Lack of maintenance may be a reason for the insurance companies to deny any claims on cost incurred during the remediation.

Prior to starting the remediation, you have to decide who you want to hire. A handyman may not give you the best results, as a certified mold remediation contractor would, though they may charge less. It’s also very important to consult with the Indoor Air Quality Association (IAQA) or the Institution of Inspection, Cleaning and Restoration Certification (IICRC) to ensure that the contractor you hire is certified and in good standing.
