99% of the mold killing and mold removal products on the shelves today are useless. It is not because all of the proprietors of these products don’t care about anything but money; it is because mold is not so easy to kill.

When dealing with a mold related issue in the home, the homeowner cannot take any chances on the so-called ‘wonder products’ that promise to rid the home of mold with just a few squirts. This is ridiculous and utterly irresponsible and smacks of money over humanity.

There are multiple solutions that can be used. The most common mold removal products that are found in the home is bleach.

Major brand names consist of Clorox and Tilex.

The bleach is recommended to be diluted to a 10 to 1 ratio. Meaning 10 parts water to 1 part bleach or 10% bleach mixture. The only bad thing about bleach is that the odor is very powerful.

When using bleach for easy mold cleanups, the room should be well ventilated and proper personal protective equipment is recommended, such as a respirator that filters odors, safety glasses, and gloves.

Anti microbial solutions are commonly used by certified mold remediation companies. They are all diluted to the manufacturers recommendations.

Use IAQ 2000 to clean and disinfect mold-contaminated surfaces as part of all mold-remediation projects. Fiberlock IAQ 2000 is an EPA-registered product.

Shockwave is an EPA-registered, quaternary ammonium chloride cleaner, disinfectant, and sanitizer designed for use on various surfaces subject to microbial contamination. Shockwave is a concentrated formula that will disinfect hard, nonporous surfaces, and also sanitizes porous and semi-porous surfaces.

Shockwave is especially useful as an all-in-one product for treating wood structural members, carpets, and other porous and nonporous surfaces as part of a complete mold remediation project. Shockwave is designed to be diluted two ounces per gallon of water, yielding 64 gallons of usable product per gallon of concentrate.

Encapsulation is a 100% acrylic mold resistant paint that is used to prevent mold growth. It is not usually recommended until the job has passed the clearance test, and in general not recommended. There are multiple encapsulation paints that is used for various applications such as high humidity and color.
